Dr. Joel Schlessinger and family donate to AAD Camp DiscoveryDr. Joel Schlessinger and his family recently made a donation to Camp Discovery, a summer camp sponsored by the American Academy of Dermatology that allows children with chronic skin conditions to enjoy a week of activities like swimming, fishing, boating, water skiing, arts and crafts.

Under the care of dermatologists and nurses, Camp Discovery allows children affected by skin conditions to spend a week with others who share their similar experiences. Many camp counselors also have chronic skin conditions so they are able to provide support and advice to the children.

The camp is free and is funded by the generosity and support of donors. As a board-certified dermatologist and pediatrician, Camp Discovery holds a special place for Dr. Joel Schlessinger. He understands that children with chronic skin diseases can often feel socially ostracized, which is just one reason why this camp provides such an amazing opportunity for so many children. Dr. Joel Schlessinger is also a big supporter of Camp Discovery because it allows children that are often sheltered from extracurricular activities to have fun without worrying about their condition.

The campers that attend Camp Discovery are affected by diseases such as epidermolysis bullosa, psoriasis, alopecia, vitiligo, eczema, scleroderma, congenital nevus, ehlers-danlos, ichthyosis, extodermal dysplasia and more.
