Dr. Joel Schlessinger offers donation to support Pine Ridge ReservationDr. Joel Schlessinger donated a free Silkpeel to benefit the efforts of Friends of J Medicine Hat, a group of volunteers continuing the mission of Jent “J Medicine Hat” Monk. This organization is dedicated to improving conditions on Pine Ridge Reservation and helping residents lead healthier lives.

The Silkpeel donated by Dr. Joel Schlessinger and the LovelySkin Spa was placed in a large silent auction during an event that included comedic and musical performances by individuals like Heather Jones, The McGuigan Brothers, Liberty Monk and James Johann. Proceeds from this event will be used to promote better way of life on the reservation, while donated items like diapers, food, clothing and toiletries will be given to Healthy Start, a nonprofit committed to promoting healthy pregnancies, children and parenting tactics.

J Medicine Hat used his talents as a comedian and hypnotist to raise money for Pine Ridge Reservation and scholarships to assist Native American students with college expenses. He opened shows for acts that included Jerry Seinfield, Dennis Miller, Roseanne Barr, The Beach Boys and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Pine Ridge Reservation is located in South Dakota and home to the Oglala Sioux Tribe. The reservation spans across 2,000,000 acres with an estimated population of 40,000. The families living in this area battle an 80% unemployment rate as well as financial, housing, health, educational and social issues.

Joel Schlessinger MD interviews potential students for Brown UniversityJoel Schlessinger MD understands the importance of a good education. Besides making generous donations to Brown University, Joel Schlessinger MD also donates his time to helping the admissions staff interview potential students.

“It never ceases to amazing me that there are such incredible students out there applying to Brown, as well as other colleges,” Joel Schlessinger MD said. “Being an interviewer allows me the opportunity to meet diverse and remarkable teenagers, while contributing to one of my alma maters.”

Joel Schlessinger MD attended Brown University Medical School in the early 1980’s. His daughter, Claire, is a current student at the college.

Brown University has a student body of 6,000 undergraduates, 2,000 graduate students and 400 medical school students. Students and faculty members come from every U.S. state and more than 100 foreign countries.

Dr. Joel Schlessinger donates to the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery
Dr. Joel Schlessinger recently donated to the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery Research Fund. This respected society’s mission is to promote excellence in patient care by helping to advance the biomedical application of lasers and other medical technologies.

The research fund for the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery is used to develop lasers and other related technologies for healthcare. With Dr. Joel Schlessinger’s generous donation, this society will be able to make large strides toward identifying and supporting new research as well as funding research grants.

Dr. Joel Schlessinger uses lasers daily in his clinic and understands the importance of continuing development of these innovative skin care tools. The American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery acts not only as source for laser innovation, but it also as a source for educational conferences, training, safety and expertise.
