Joel Schlessinger donates 1,000 FixMySkin Healing Balms to the Open Door Mission

More than 3.5 million people around the country are homeless. Twenty thousand of those individuals are homeless in Nebraska, and 2,000 are in Omaha. Care and compassion are key to changing lives and helping those in need find hope. Recently, Joel Schlessinger donated 1,000 FixMySkin Healing Balms to the Open Door Mission’s Hope Tote program.

Open Door Mission is a Gospel Rescue Mission founded in 1954. The Mission was formed in response to the many men who crowded the streets of Omaha looking for work with one of the city’s 10 railroads. What began as a one-building operation has expanded to include a full campus and several programs tailored toward specific needs. Above all, the group is committed to breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty. Every day, they provide over 2,000 hot meals and 816 safe shelter beds to homeless men, women and children.

Donations from people like Joel Schlessinger help provide personal care items for the homeless.

The Open Door Mission’s Hope Tote program helps distribute personal care items to homeless individuals in the Omaha area. Among the items frequently requested are toothpaste and toothbrushes, over-the-counter pain relief, deodorant and shampoo. Joel Schlessinger and his son, Daniel’s, invention, FixMySkin Healing Balm with 1% Hydrocortisone, made a wonderful addition to 1,000 Hope Totes. The balm helps soothe everyday skin concerns such as minor cuts and the dry skin and chapped lips that often accompany cold winter weather.

Joel Schlessinger, his family and members of his staff were delighted to deliver the balms and tour the Open Door Mission facilities. They are excited to donate to this wonderful cause and help those in need get back on their feet.

The Open Door Mission is always accepting donations for the Hope Tote project, and they have created an Amazon Wish List to make sending items directly to their campus quick and easy. Click here to access the Open Door Mission Hope Tote Amazon Wish List.
