Joel Schlessinger and his wife, Nancy, have made a generous donation to Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide organization of women singers, for the third year running. Their donation this year went toward the Acappella Omaha Chorus chapter’s annual Fall Show. The 2014 show was titled, “Reflections,” and it took place on November 15 at Papillion/LaVista High School.
Support from Joel Schlessinger and others helps bring area women together in barbershop harmony.
Sweet Adelines International was founded in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1945, and today it consists of more than 30,000 members, 500 choruses and 1,200 quartets over a span of five continents! This respected nonprofit is comprised of women from all different backgrounds who are committed to pursuing and advancing the art of barbershop harmony through education, competition and community performance. Sweet Adelines offers a wide range of programs and services, including special certification programs, musical arrangement print and publication, educational conventions and youth performance opportunities.
The Acappella Omaha Chorus chapter includes 40 women of all ages who meet weekly to practice, perform and share their love of music. The group’s main passion is performing, and they sing at annual shows and events, as well as a yearly competition. The group is always striving to learn more about barbershop harmony through master classes and other educational opportunities, and they seek to share their excitement for this classic art form with the community.
Joel Schlessinger and his family are dedicated to supporting the arts in Omaha.
The 2014 Acappella Omaha Chorus Fall Show, “Reflections,” featured a variety of classic numbers like “Fly Me to the Moon,” and “Sweet Georgia Brown,” as well as new hits like Pharrell Williams’ “Happy.” For the second half of the show, the chorus sang the family holiday favorites, “Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!,” “Winter Wonderland,” and many, many more. Despite inclement weather, the show was a wonderful success!
Joel Schlessinger and his family are great appreciators of music, and they are pleased to donate to Acappella Omaha Chorus and other art organizations around the Omaha metro area each year.
